ADDITIONAL YOUTH WORKERS NEEDED IN HAILSHAM (26/07/21)

As part its commitment to putting young people at the heart of everything they do, Hailsham Youth Service is currently seeking additional youth workers to help with the expansion of local services.

Hailsham Youth Service is currently looking for 3 part-time youth workers. Applicants should be motivated, resourceful and conscientious team members who would enhance the youth service for young people in Hailsham and its environs.
As an organisation, Hailsham Youth Service's objective is to positively impact the lives of young people, and that ethos is applied to its growing and dedicated team of youth service staff. Newly recruited youth workers will be provided with a valuable and rewarding experience supporting local young people in reaching their potential.
"Hailsham Youth Service aims to provide activities - which are both leisure and issue based - and meet the multitude of needs that the young people put forward us on a regular basis," said Helen Deane, Deputy Youth Project Coordinator. "Since joining the Service, it has been a pleasure to work with the youth service team – their positive attitude and obvious enjoyment in working with young people has ensured that Hailsham Youth Service has gone from strength to strength in recent years, despite the pandemic and associated lockdowns of the past 18 months.”
"We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and skills, and recognise that attitudes and experience bring fresh ideas! We would like to encourage these differences to make our various projects even more successful, so all young people who benefit feel represented within our organisation."
Officially opened in January 2000, the 1 Market Square project, as it was known then, was set up by the Town Council to improve the quality of life for young people aged 14 to 25 years in Hailsham and surrounding rural villages. Now called Hailsham Youth Service, such benefits are achieved through the integrated provision of recreation, opportunities for personal and social development, information and advice.

As well as running clubs and centres, including the Square Youth Café in Market Street on weekday afternoons and evenings, the Monday Youth Hub at the James West Community Centre on Monday evenings and the newly established Hellingly Youth Hub on Wednesday evenings, Hailsham Youth Service organises a range of recreational outings and activities as part of the Friday Night Project.

Hailsham Youth Service also offers a support services such as its Safehub facility, to accommodate young people who are under the influence of alcohol or other substances, itself incorporating a Sexual Health advisory service on Friday evenings.

Town Clerk John Harrison commented: “The development of the Town Council’s youth projects since launching 22 years ago proves that there are ample opportunities for developing partnerships with other agencies to provide innovative work with individuals or groups of young people.”

“Here in Hailsham, we want our young people to have access to the best youth service and, to help us deliver on our ambitious plans, we are now looking for people to join the Hailsham Youth Service team, ideally those who share our enthusiasm, positive attitude and who can help young people thrive."
